If you’re looking for a spot where the pace slows down and the livin’ comes easy, then Laurel and Jones County is calling your name this spring. With a little something for everyone to enjoy, we’re proud to offer the perfect balance of revelry and relaxation. Check out how we recommend spending your spring break in 2026.
Make Yourself at Home
First things first, you’ll need a home base. Whether you fancy a historic Bed and Breakfast with a wrap-around porch or a dependable stay at the Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express, there’s a pillow here with your name on it. If you’ve got a big crew, a local vacation rental by Cozy Cottage Management is the way to go; there’s nothing like having a kitchen for midnight snacks and a yard for the kids to stretch their legs.
Fresh Air and Family Fun
When the Mississippi sun starts peeking through the oaks, it’s time to head outside. For a classic afternoon of play, Trustmark Art Park offers plenty of room for the kids to run off that extra energy. If your family enjoys a little friendly competition, head over to the Gardiner Park playgrounds or try your hand at the Dixie Golf Club. Landrum’s Homestead and Village combines indoor and outdoor fun by allowing guests to step back in time with hands-on activities—great for little ones and parents alike! For furry family members, Mason Park is pawsitively perfect for everyone. Be sure to check out the disc golf course and walking track, too.
Tastes Like Home
You certainly won't go hungry around here! For a meal that feels like a backyard party, Hog Heaven serves up BBQ so good it’ll have the whole family reaching for seconds. If you’re in the mood for something hearty and filling, Wilson’s Commissary has everything from meat-and-three options to mouthwatering burgers. Enjoy outdoor seating, a kid-friendly atmosphere and bingo on Thursdays! Perhaps grab a slice of pizza from Pasquales, or get your fill at the salad bar. And because no spring break is complete without a treat, make sure to stop by Bennie Mae’s Ice Cream Shop or grab some fresh goodies from Hill Street Bakery.
Shop for Spring
Laurel and Ellisville are treasure troves for shoppers of all ages. You can find the most darling outfits for the little ones at local favorites like Two A Tee, Plaid Pecan and Monkee and Ollies. Spend an hour getting lost in the aisles at The Laurel Mercantile. While you’re wandering, be sure to pop into Emporium on Ivy to find that perfect piece of Mississippi charm to take home with you. Hand + Made invites guests to join them for pottery painting. You can walk right in, or plan ahead for large group fun! Don’t forget to grab some fresh lemonade while you’re there.
Spring Events You’ll Love
We have a full lineup of community fun this season that you won’t want to miss. On March 14th, the Laurel Food Truck Festival is a must-visit for any food-loving family. Follow that up on March 21st with the Mississippi Made event at Laurel Mercantile, where you can meet local artisans and see their beautiful work firsthand.
If you’re visiting later in the month, grab a spoon for the Roux Masters Gumbo Cook-Off to see who really rules the kitchen. And finally, April brings the annual Spring Fest, which is basically a giant celebration of everything we love about our community. No matter which week you visit, we can’t wait to welcome your family to Laurel and Jones County this year—it’s going to be a spring break to remember! And be sure to keep an eye on our events calendar. We are always adding new excitement that you just can’t miss out on!
