If you've ever wondered about the Mississippi artists behind the music on Home Town, this one's for you.
On Thursday, September 24, Lauren Rogers Museum of Art hosts Back Roads & Back Stories, a free songwriter-in-the-round featuring Drew Young, Cary Hudson and Shelby Kemp. All three artists have had music featured on HGTV's Home Town, making this an especially fitting stop for the traveling series.
The format is simple and intimate: three writers, original songs and the stories behind them. No setlists, no stage distance. Just artists and audiences close enough to actually connect.
Created by Hattiesburg songwriter Drew Young, Back Roads & Back Stories has already traveled through New Orleans, West Point and Meridian. Cary Hudson (co-founder of Blue Mountain) and Shelby Kemp of Royal Horses both have history performing in Laurel, so the evening feels less like a tour stop and more like a reunion.
The event runs 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
