Laurel area veterans share service stories as part of nationwide ‘Veterans History Project’

LAUREL, Miss. (WDAM) - Some Laurel-area veterans are participating in a nationwide initiative to document their service histories.

Veterans Larry Callahan and Gerry Canas have recently been interviewed by the Mississippi Library Commission for the Veterans History Project.

That’s an ongoing program through the Library of Congress to gather and preserve firsthand recollections of U.S. Military veterans.

“Number one, it helps with (veterans’) healing, if they can speak about their experiences and their stories and things,” said Canas, of Laurel, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, who served from 1969-1991.
