Mississippi’s Film Industry Continues to Gain Influence

Former and current projects bring positive attention to the state

Mississippi continues to attract major television and movie productions that enhance the visibility of the state while providing considerable economic benefits.

Five projects have just wrapped in the past month, three on the Coast and two in the Canton-Jackson area.

“We had a feature film starring John Travolta as well as smaller scale projects featuring up and coming on-screen talent,” said Nina Parikh, Director, Film Mississippi a division of the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA). “The bottom line is all of these projects employed Mississippians and spent money with businesses in our communities from restaurants to hotels, gas stations to rented spaces for offices and locations, as well as businesses providing set dry cleaners, decoration, props, clothing, and anything else one might see on the screen.”
