Plan a Fall Getaway | 5 Things to Do this Fall in Jones County, MS

There’s nothing quite like fall in the South, and Jones County, Mississippi is no exception. This season, we’re giving you permission to slow down – to sit on the porch of your B&B and slowly sip your coffee in the morning. To wander with no destination in mind as the smell of freshly baked cinnamon rolls wafts through the downtown streets. The views are Gingko trees in shades of gold, shops that are blissfully less crowded than big city destinations, and restaurants serving up their best and most delicious fare al fresco. Here, you’ll enjoy temperate weather – rarely needing more than a light sweater in the evenings. Autumn in Laurel and Jones County, Mississippi is something special, and we hope you’re making plans to experience it! Here are five things to do while you’re here this fall.

Eat Dessert First

Fall is for gooey cinnamon rolls, fresh-out-of-the-oven apple pie, and all-things-pumpkin pie spiced. Our local bakeries really deliver on the flavors of the season with their truly amazing pastries and treats! Our suggestion? Eat dessert first! Whether you’re craving cupcakes, cookie dough, bread pudding, milkshakes, pies, or gourmet fudge, it’s all here at our local restaurants and bakeries!

Go for a Drive

Southern landscapes are a sight to behold. From beautiful pastures full of horses and livestock to hidden gems like Landrum’s Homestead & Village or Rasberry Greene and even a waterfront view at Lake Bogue Homa, you’re sure to find something beautiful.

Have a Picnic

Is there any better way to enjoy the beauty of fall than by dining outdoors? Grab a bite to go from a local eatery, then head to Trustmark Art Park (located at North Magnolia Street & Oak Street) in the heart of Downtown Laurel.

Take a Hike

If hiking is your thing, then you won’t want to miss the trails of Desoto National Forest. Located just outside of Laurel, two National Recreation Trails, the Black Creek and the Tuxachanie, offer more than 60 miles for hikers to explore the pinewoods.

Get Ready for the Holidays

Whether you want some additions to your winter wardrobe, are ready to start shopping for holiday gifts, or want to freshen up your home décor, our boutiques, toy stores, furniture shops, and antique stores definitely have you covered!
